Soda Bottle Shaker Time

Toddler ages: 22 months, 22 months

Materials you'll need:
-empty soda bottles
-various things with which to fill the bottles (we used sugar, rice, quinoa grain, 15-bean soup mixture, and a green-colored water and oil combo)

First of all, I'd like to explain something to you today. If you've been reading this blog for a while, you've probably noticed that the twins, and sometimes even the 3-year-old boy, spend most of their time in one-piece sleepers. There are a few reasons for this. First, it takes about 10 minutes to get one child completely dressed in shirt, pants, socks, shoes, and a sweater. Multiply that times 3 and that is half an hour. It takes less than a minute to get on a one-piece sleeper, especially if you do it THIS way. Second, the twins have developed the irritating habit of pulling their pants down when need be, taking off their diapers, whatever they may contain, and running through the house, willy-nilly. They have a more difficult time doing this if they are wearing one-piece sleepers. Third, if I had my druthers, I would go around in a one-piece sleeper, because they just look so comfy. So, there you have my explanation. Now, on to the activity!

If you'll remember the toothpaste box rattle activity, it was an utter failure. However, from that post came this comment, by Alessandra from Ale's Random Tips ...

"You see, in the kindergarten they do something similar with small, plastic bottles..."

This was an inspiration to me, so we tried it. As I mentioned in the materials list, we used (pictured from left to right below) rice, sugar, green food-colored water with vegetable oil, quinoa grain, and 15-bean soup mix...

I screwed on the tops really, really tightly, and let the fun begin!

There was lots of shakin'...

...upside-down arranging...

...careful study...

....lying-on-their-sides arranging...

...a little bit of fighting when Twin A would continually run off with what Twin B thought was his personal bottle...

(Yes, you will see that the TV was on, but this was only for the 13-year-old boy who stayed home sick from school.)

...and throwing...

A great activity inspired by an awesomely cool Italian lady! Thanks Ale!

Jen, there were numerous reasons that I liked "my boys" to wear the OshKosh overalls (which thankfully the Lord supplied for us), one of which is that it took/takes a bit more hand cordination to get out of them than young ones usually have, espically when the object is on themselves.
Similar to your all day sleepers. Us moms have a thing for finding something that works and sticking with it, huh? :->
