Block Time

Toddler ages: 22 months, 22 months, 3.5 years

Materials you'll need:
-blocks
-large metal mixing bowl

Most of us have blocks, but how often do we sit down and join our toddlers in the fun? Yesterday, I did.

To make a good and tall tower, it is imperative to have a firm foundation...

...then one can proceed to build...

...and this is as tall as my tower ever got, as the twins enoyed knocking it down more than building it up. The 3-year-old boy, however, would have loved to go higher, and began to feel a bit dejected after numerous attempts...

...but he wasn't afraid to start from square one again...

Although I had my own ideas about how to build a tall tower, Twins A and B seemed to have their own ideas, too...

...and proved to be much more successful at building tall towers than I was...

Building tall towers was fun, but what was even more fun was clean-up time. I got out a restaurant-size metal mixing bowl (can be purchased at Sam's) and told the kids to throw all the blocks into the bowl. Each hit made a wonderful tolling bell sound...

...and in no time, we had all the blocks cleaned up. All we had to do after that was pour them into their original canvas box...

And don't worry, the fun can still continue if you don't put the bowl away immediately...

Thanks for listening.

  1. My little guys love building towers! Ok, well at least my 3 year old does. The 18 mo just knocks his brother's tower down!

  6. Hi Jen! We played with beads today, but I used your metal bowl idea- my daughter loved the sounds it made. I put up a picture here: http://mbcscrapbooking.blogspot.com/2009/12/christmas-and-crafts.html
